Modern afro-folk in Xhosa
Bongeziwe Mabandla melts traditional and modern musical influences into inventive afro-folk songs. The singer and guitarist grew up on the Eastern Cape of South Africa, but later moved to Johannesburg to work on his career. Despite this change he continued to sing and write in Xhosa, his native language. In 2017 he impressed with his second album Mangaliso ('Wonder'), with which Mabandla won a South African Music Award (SAMA). Now it's only a matter of time before his new approach to African music is also heard worldwide.
